Kingdom Arts & Sciences Rubrics/Judging Forms

Object

Select this form if your entry is a finished object. This form’s scoring focuses primarily on your final physical result.  Example – Your entry is an oil painting and want the painting (finished work) and your historical technique to be assessed.

Process

Select this form if your entry is a process of making an item or performing a task and the steps of your process. Scoring focuses primarily on the different steps of your process and the end result is less important than whether the process was executed correctly.  Example – Your entry is how soap was made in period and the differing steps it takes to make it in period.

Experimental Archaeology

Select this form if your entry has a claim or hypothesis you are proving/attempting to prove as part of your research and/or process. Scoring focuses primarily on how you researched and/or executed your research to prove or disprove your claim or hypothesis.  Example – Your entry is an assertion that fresh water was used in period dyeing in 10th century Sweden. You are unsure if they used salt, brackish, or fresh water in their dye vats, but you are making a case that fresh water was used and want to research/experiment to prove (or disprove) it.

Performance

Select this form if your entry is the performance of a piece.  Performances can be a play, singing, instrumental music, shadow puppetry, juggling, poetry reading, etc. and the scoring focuses primarily on the performance, itself.  Example – Your entry is reciting a famous Roman speech in Latin to an audience and you have documented background information about the place/time of the speech.

Written Composition

Select this form if your entry is a written work (poem, prose, musical score, manuscript, etc.).  Scoring focuses primarily on the written composition and how your documentation supports your research on the topic.  Example – Your entry is a poem in ancient Greek in the Greek lyrical style.

Research Paper

Select this form if your entry is research paper.  Scoring focuses primarily on the Research Paper, itself, and how well you explain your topic, perform research, cite sources, and put together your final paper.  Example – Your entry is a paper titled “How the Byzantine Empire impacted trade on the Silk Road” and you wish to be assessed on your research process, knowledge, and the final paper’s construction and organization.
