Arts and Sciences AI Competition Statement:
An Tir is in the early processes of developing an AI policy for Arts and Sciences competitions that will have future guidelines for it’s use and how/if it is permitted.
For this KAS competition year, we request that you refrain from using generative AI to create documentation or images (whole or in part) for your entry. This does not preclude use of editing or language tools that may include AI as an element.
If a judge suspects that generative AI was used to create whole or part of your project, they will be instructed to make a note of it so the documentation can be reviewed further by the KAS Officer and designees. Any concerns will be discussed directly with the entrant. Generative AI use to create full or part of your documentation and reference images may cause the entrant to be ineligible for Scholar of An Tir, Sable Bonnet, Finalist and Kingdom Champion designations.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):
1.) If I use AI to edit photos to remove blurriness, mirror shine on artifacts, or people from the background, is this allowed?
Response: Yes, this is allowed! The policy only impacts the creation of photos in the generative AI process. Editing photos to remove unwanted elements/items is allowed. If you are using a prompt to type “Create a paper with images and sources on Louis XII” and the AI generates an image that may or may not be real, this is not allowed. If you accidentally use an AI generated image unintentionally, this may be flagged by the judges, but if you assert that this was unintentional, we will take your word that it was an unfortunate occurrence. We are only trying to curb use of generative AI to create your documentation/image evidence (whole or in part).
2.) Are editing tools with AI components okay?
Response: Yes, editing tools with AI components are okay. Using generative AI to edit or refine your language is also okay. Please rereview your documentation following AI use to ensure no hallucinations (wonky changes AI does to replace information) were added to your documentation. These may be flagged, but if hallucinations were only added during the editing phase, this will be accepted.
3.) Can i use speech-to-text and have AI format that text into an understandable document with better grammar and sentence structure?
Response: Yes, this is allowed, as it isn’t creating that information from nothing. You will still be expected to cite sources, but you are also allowed to have AI assist you in organizing a list of sources into a formal bibliography.
